MSOE honors businessman Pieper at Fall Commencement

Milwaukee businessman Richard R. Pieper Sr. will be presented an Honorary Doctor of Engineering degree at Milwaukee School of Engineering's Fall 2004 Commencement. The event is slated for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at the university's new Kern Center.

After studying industrial engineering at the University of Miami, Pieper bought his father's small electrician's shop in Milwaukee, and expanded it to become one of the country's largest electrical contracting firms. He is chairman and CEO of PPC Partners Inc., parent company of Pieper Electric, Ideal Plumbing and Heating, and the Joseph Witting Co.

Pieper has supported MSOE as a member of the Corporate Board since 1978 and recently established an endowed chairmanship to promote the concepts of servant-leadership at the university.

Richard Pieper has served on the boards of Junior Achievement-Southeastern Wisconsin, Boy Scouts of America-Milwaukee, Boys & Girls Club, Florentine Opera, Young President's Organization-International, Wisconsin Council of Economic Education, Wisconsin Diabetes Association, Milwaukee Jaycees, Milwaukee Art Museum and others;

Pieper has received numerous honors and awards, including the William C. Frye Award from the Milwaukee Foundation in recognition of volunteer community efforts, the James H. McGraw award from the National Electrical Contractors Association, the Annabell Cook Whitcomb Award from the Boys & Girls Club, the Lifetime Achievement in Construction Award from University of Wisconsin Construction Club, and the National Silver Leadership award from Junior Achievement.
