WMSE welcomes Manhattan noisemakers Skeleton Key to campus

Published: 03/23/2004 Bookmark and Share

Frontier Radio station WMSE 91.7 fm hosts Manhattan art-rock noisemakers Skeleton Key to campus Thursday, March 25, along with bands Cheer-Accident and Ifihadahifi. MSOE students receive half-price admission to the all-ages show with ID.

The band’s latest, Obtainium, was released on Mike Patton's Ipecac Records in June 2002. The album showcases the band as a tough songwriting machine employing their trademark junkyard-dog esthetic, but seen through a sharply focused lens. The songs explore an eclectic subjects matter through metaphor and esoteric characterizations. Whether it's the voice of a taxidermied bird or the description of an invisible bullet inflicting panic on its unsuspecting victim, Obtainium speaks through the simultaneously funny, anachronistic, and spooky voice that is uniquely Skeleton Key.

The high-octane, super-charged quartet features the unbridled enthusiasm of garbage basher Tim Keiper, the continued bashing and non-sequiters of drummer Matthias Bossi, the insect logic of Craig LeBlang’s guitar excursions, and the low-ended lope (and high ended yodel) of Erik Sanko.

Doors for the all-ages show open at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 25 at MSOE’s Todd Wehr Auditorium, 1047 N. Broadway (and Highland). Tickets are $8 and are available in advance at Atomic Records, Rush Mor Records and wmse.musictoday.com. MSOE students receive half-price admission with ID.

WMSE is an independent radio station owned and operated by Milwaukee School of Engineering.
