MSOE honors M&I chairman at spring commencement

MSOE’s Spring Commencement is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee. James Wigdale, chairman of the board of Marshall & Ilsley Corp., will give the keynote address and receive an honorary Doctor of Business degree.
Wigdale joined Marshall & Ilsley Bank in 1962. During his career at M&I, Wigdale served in a number of positions in the Commercial Banking Division, and was later elected vice chairman and director of Marshall & Ilsley Corp. in 1988, and chairman and chief executive officer in 1992. He serves as a director and president of M&I Ventures LLC and M&I Capital Markets Group LLC, and is a director of M&I Brokerage Services Inc., Marshall & Ilsley Trust Co. N.A., M&I Investment Management Inc. and Metavante Corp.
A member of the MSOE Board of Regents since 1996, Wigdale is secretary and treasurer of the board of directors of Columbia St. Mary’s Inc.; a member of the board of Columbia Health System Inc, Columbia Foundation, Medical College of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital Foundation, Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Greater Milwaukee; chairman of the board of trustees of YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee Inc.; and a director of Milwaukee Redevelopment Corporation, the Greater Milwaukee Committee and Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. He also serves as a director of Mason Wells Inc., Green Bay Packaging Inc. and Sentry Insurance. He has been a member of The Financial Services Roundtable since 1974.
Wigdale earned a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University in 1959 and an honorary degree from Ripon College in 2001.
