New faculty members join MSOE

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) has announced the hiring of the following faculty:
Dr. Dengfeng Cheng has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mathematics Department. Cheng earned a Ph.D. in numerical analysis from UW-Milwaukee in 2000 and a B.S. in computational mathematics from Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, in 1982. He resides in Milwaukee.
Dr. Michael Darnell has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the General Studies Department. He earned a Ph.D. in 1997 and an M.A. in 1989, both in English Linguistics, and a B.A. in English in 1987, all from UW-Milwaukee. He lives in Shorewood, Wis.
Dr. Mohib Durranni, P.E., has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Durranni earned a Doctor of Engineering Science in engineering mechanics and civil engineering from Columbia University in 1988 and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India, in 1968. He resides in Milwaukee.
Michael Emmer has joined MSOE as an assistant professor in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Emmer earned a B.S. in construction management from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston in 2002, and is working toward an M.S. in construction science and management at Clemson University in Boston. He lives in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Dr. Jan Fertig has joined MSOE as an assistant professor in the General Studies Department. Fertig earned a Ph.D. in social psychology from University of Nevada-Reno in 2003 and a B.A. in psychology from Southern Oregon State University in 1988. She resides in Milwaukee.
Dr. Richard Goff has joined MSOE as a visiting professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Goff is an associate professor and director of the Frith Freshman Engineering Design Laboratory in the College of Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He earned a Ph.D. in 1981, an M.S. in 1976 and a B.S. in 1967, all in aerospace engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He lives on Milwaukee’s East side.
Rami Hawileh has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Hawileh earned an M.S from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., in 2000 and a B.S. from Birzeit University in Palestine in 1998, both in civil engineering. He is working toward his Ph.D. in civil engineering at UW-Milwaukee. He resides on Milwaukee’s East side.
Dr. David Howell has joined MSOE as an assistant professor in the General Studies Department. Howell earned a Doctor of Philosophy from Washington State University in 1997, an M.F.A. in creative writing from University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 1991 and a B.A. in English in 1986 from Whitworth College. He lives in Whitefish Bay, Wis.
Dr. Patrick Jung has joined MSOE as an assistant professor in the General Studies Department. Jung earned a Ph.D. in 1997 and an M.A. in 1992, both in American history from Marquette University, and a B.A. in political science from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1986. He resides in Milwaukee.
Melissa Karls has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the Rader School of Business. Karls earned a J.D. from Marquette University in 2001, an MBA from UW-Milwaukee in 1997 and B.S. degrees in natural science, English and business administration at St. Norbert College in 1996. She lives in Shorewood, Wis.
Phillip Katz has joined MSOE as an adjunct lecturer in the Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department. Katz earned a Master of Architecture at UW-Milwaukee in 1999 and a B.A. in landscape planning from College of Santa Fe in 1994. Katz resides in Milwaukee.
Thomas Moerke has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the Rader School of Business. Moerke earned an M.S. in computer science in 1992 and a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1977, both from Marquette University. He lives in Waukesha, Wis.
Dr. Bruce O’Neill has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mathematics Department. O’Neill earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 1991 and an M.S. in mathematics in 1975, both from UW-Milwaukee, and a B.S. in mathematics from Michigan State University in 1973. He resides in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood.
Dr. Vipin Paliwal has joined MSOE as an assistant professor in the Physics and Chemistry Department. Paliwal earned a Ph.D. from Postgraduate Medical Institute, Chandigarh, India, in 1985 and an M.S. from Kurukshetra University, Karnal, India, in 1980, both in biochemistry, and a B.S. in biology and chemistry from Guru Nanak University, Amritsar, India, in 1977. He lives in Fox Point, Wis.
Dr. Samuel Scheibler has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the General Studies Department. He eared a Doctor of Misslology in 1991 and an M.A. in 1986, both in intercultural studies, and a B.A. in intercultural communication in 1978, all from Biola University in La Mirada, Calif. He resides in Milwaukee.
Michael Schulz has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in Physics and Chemistry Department. Schulz earned a M.S. degree from Purdue University in 1972 and a bachelor of education from UW-Whitewater in 1966. He lives in Hartford, Wis.
Dr. Tatiana Soleski has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Mathematics Department. Soleski earned Ph.D. degrees in mathematics from UW-Milwaukee in 2002 and Moscow (Russia) State University in 1996, and an M.S. in mathematics from Moscow State University in 1992. She resides in Shorewood, Wis.
Matthew Tittl ’02 has joined MSOE as an adjunct assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Tittl earned an M.S. in perfusion from MSOE in 2002, and B.S. degrees in biomedical engineering from Marquette University in 1996 and in engineering from Concordia University in 1996. He lives in West Allis, Wis.
Jay Urbain has joined MSOE as a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Urbain earned an MBA from UW-Madison in 1997, an M.S. in computer engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from University of Illinois in 1981. He resides in Bayside, Wis.
Dr. Yvonne Yaz joined MSOE as an associate professor in the Mathematics Department. Yaz earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in 1991; an M.S. in 1984 and B.S in 1982, both in mathematics and a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1980, all from Bosphorus University in Turkey. She resides in Elm Grove, Wis.
