MSOE announces faculty promotions

MSOE has announced the following faculty promotions:
Dr. Gul Afshan, formerly assistant professor in the MSOE Physics and Chemistry Department, has been promoted to associate professor. Afshan received master’s degrees in both inorganic chemistry and analytical chemistry at Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. She received her Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in biochemistry/molecular biology, then obtained a post-doctoral position in the Department of Pathology at the UW-Madison Medical College. She Joined MSOE in 2000. She lives in Whitefish Bay, Wis.
Dr. Edward Chandler has been named director of MSOE’s B.S. in Electrical Engineering Technology Program. Chandler has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University. His areas of specialization are communication systems, satellite communications, spread spectrum, telecommunications and networking, and control systems. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin. He lives in Glendale, Wis.
Dr. J. William Dawicke, a professor in the MSOE Physics and Chemistry Department, was named chairman of the Department. Dawicke joined MSOE in 1967 after receiving a B.S. in chemistry and physics education and an M.S. in physics, both from UW-Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. in materials science from Marquette University. Dawicke received MSOE’s Oscar Werwath Distinguished Teacher Award in 1987. He lives in Franklin, Wis.
Dr. Ron Gerrits, formerly assistant professor in the MSOE Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, has been promoted to associate professor. Gerrits earned a B.S. degree in biomedical engineering in 1994 from MSOE and a Ph.D. in physiology from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1999. His areas of specialization include physiology and medical sciences. Gerrits grew up in DePere, Wis., and now lives in Lake Mills.
Dr. R. David Kent, chairman of MSOE’s General Studies Department, has been promoted from an assistant professor to associate professor. Kent earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from Marquette University and a Ph.D. in English from UW-Milwaukee. He began teaching at MSOE in 1998. He lives in Cedarburg, Wis.
Robert Lemke, formerly assistant professor in MSOE’s Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department, has been promoted to associate professor. Lemke has a B.S. degree in architecture from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and an M.S. in engineering management from MSOE. He is a Registered Professional Architect in the State of Wisconsin. Lemke lives in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Dr. Katherine Wikoff, director of MSOE’s Technical Communication bachelor’s degree program, has been promoted to associate professor in the General Studies Department. Wikoff holds a B.A. in political science from Wright State University and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in English from UW-Milwaukee. She lives in Wauwatosa, Wis.
Founded in 1903, MSOE is celebrating its first 100 years. MSOE is an independent university with about 2,600 students. MSOE offers 16 bachelor’s degrees in areas such as engineering, nursing, business, management information systems, technical communication, engineering technology and construction management. Graduate study includes engineering, engineering management, environmental engineering, structural engineering, medical informatics and perfusion.
