Mechanical engineering professor receives national SAE award

Dr. John Lumkes Jr., an MSOE mechanical engineering professor, was one of nine educators nationally to receive the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) 2003 Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award for outstanding teaching ethics and contributions to academic excellence. Recipients, chosen from both the ground vehicle and aerospace fields, received an expense-paid trip to the SAE World Congress meeting. The program fosters relationships between industry and academia.
Lumkes holds as Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and a bachelor’s degree From Calvin College – all in mechanical engineering. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin and has been with MSOE since 1997.
Founded in 1903, MSOE is celebrating its first 100 years. MSOE is an independent university with about 2,600 students. MSOE offers 16 bachelor’s degrees in areas such as engineering, nursing, business, management information systems, technical communication, engineering technology and construction management. Graduate study includes engineering, engineering management, environmental engineering, structural engineering, medical informatics and perfusion.
