MSOE Spring Commencement Features Noted Milwaukee Leader

     More than 340 undergraduate and 24 graduate students in engineering majors, the Rader School of Business and the School of Nursing will receive their diplomas at Milwaukee School of Engineering's (MSOE) Spring Commencement, Saturday, May 24 at the Kern Center.
     The in-the-round ceremony will feature a keynote address from one of Wisconsin's leading businessmen and supporters of education: David V. Uihlein, Jr.

Speaker/Honorary Degree Recipient

     In addition to delivering the keynote address, Uihlein will receive an Honorary Doctor of Engineering during MSOE's Commencement. Uihlein is president of Uihlein-Wilson Architects of Milwaukee. The firm, established by Uihlein in 1985, has completed noteworthy projects throughout Wisconsin. He has served as an MSOE Corporation member since 1986 and as a Regent since 1999. At MSOE, Uihlein and his firm have designed two iconic buildings, the Kern Center and the Grohmann Museum. The eye-catching Kern Center is a 210,000 square foot wellness and athletics facility including a 100 foot long, three story high glass ellipse. The recently opened Grohmann Museum, home of the Man at Work art collection, also employs glass as an important component along with bronze statuary and a roof garden.
     Uihlein serves as vice chairman of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. He has received the City of Waukesha Landmarks Commission Gunn Award, Wisconsin Society of Architects/AIA Merit Award, and Milwaukee Art Commission Distinguished Architect-Renovation Award. Uihlein received a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Denver and a bachelor's degree in architecture from Rhode Island School of Design.
