Dr. David A. Howell, assistant professor in the General Studies Department, has been named to the Pieper Family Foundation Endowed Chair for Servant-Leadership at MSOE. The goal of the chair is to promote the "Servant-Leader Model," which was articulated by Robert K. Greenleaf in a 1970 publication entitled The Servant as Leader.
Dr. Howell succeeds Dr. Samuel Scheibler in the Servant-Leadership half-time position, which was made available by a generous grant from the Richard Pieper Family Foundation in 2004. In his three-year term, Dr. Scheibler accomplished a great deal, reflecting favorably on MSOE as the first university in the nation to have an endowed Chair for Servant-Leadership.
Dr. Howell holds a bachelor's degree from Whitworth College, a M.F.A from University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and Ph.D. from Washington State University. While acting as chair, he will continue to teach on the faculty of the General Studies Department at MSOE. The Office of Servant-Leadership is located in K-240, on the second level of the Kern Center, adjacent to the Counseling Services and Health Services offices.
