Students from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) traveled to Downers Grove, Ill. in October to compete against 17 Midwestern universities in the Associated Schools of Construction Region III Student Competition. For the seventh consecutive year, the Design-Build Team took first place. The Commercial Team took second place in the competition.
The Design-Build Team will travel to San Diego in March to compete in the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) National Student Championship, the leading student competition for future construction industry professionals. The two-day simulated construction project will allow the team to showcase their abilities and be evaluated on the following criteria: estimating, bidding, planning and scheduling; understanding of sound construction techniques; thoughtful methodology; presentation skills; and creativity.

MSOE's B.S. in construction management program educates students to manage projects from conception to completion. MSOE stresses the technical process and resource management skills essential to safely construct high-quality commercial, institutional and industrial buildings on time, within budget.
Students study modern construction materials and methods; accurate estimation, scheduling and controlling; and efficient, legal and ethical project administration and management. Business, basic engineering and communication also are part of MSOE's education. Students find the laboratory-based, learn-by-doing, small class educational philosophy of MSOE is proven highly effective. The construction management program provides a learning environment that incorporates the needs of industry while helping students develop into a well-rounded professional construction manager.
As a fully accredited program, construction management prepares students to excel on the Constructor Qualification Examination. MSOE students show superior performance by consistently scoring above the national average when taking the exam as seniors.
