More than 80 eighth-graders will visit Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) to take part in the National Fluid Power Association's (NFPA) Fluid Power Challenge. The competition challenges students to solve an engineering problem using fluid power technology.
During Workshop Day on Nov. 14, students learned about fluid power by building a pneumatic lifter, and develop the skills for the competition. They have taken their projects back to school where they will work on a specific challenge scenario and design, build and test a prototype.
Students return to MSOE for Challenge Day on Friday, Dec. 12, with their updated designs and build a fluid power mechanism. Their teachers will spend the morning learning about fluid power from MSOE professors and staff of MSOE's Fluid Power InstituteTM.
The NFPA Fluid Power Challenge encourages students to acquire a diverse set of skills; provides support and resources to teachers for science and technology curriculum; and introduces students to careers in the fluid power industry and other technologies.
Visit the NFPA website for more information on the Fluid Power Challenge.
