MSOE campus celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Students at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with an art contest, and by volunteering at West Side Academy II.
Many students entered their drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography, papier-mâché, carvings, graphic designs, poetry and mixed media in a campus art contest. The theme of the contest was “Live Together in Peace.” Artwork will be on display during the university’s MLK Celebration on Monday, Jan. 19 starting at 5 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Auditorium, 1047 N. Broadway in Milwaukee.
Off campus, nine MSOE students are volunteering their time at West Side Academy II, to help 15 middle school students develop an iMac multimedia project representing Martin Luther King, Jr. The middle school students are competing for a trip to Discovery World. The projects will be presented at MSOE’s celebration on the 19th.
The celebration will also include “A Taste of Soul” in the Cudahy Student Center great room from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., which is free to everyone. From 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. there will be a multimedia presentation in the Todd Wehr Audtiorium, which features photos from the Black History Museum and the multimedia projects created by West Side Academy II students working with MSOE student volunteers.
The formal MLK Day Celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Auditorium, with keynote speakers Clayborn Benson, Director of Black History Museum and Jason Fields, Wisconsin State Representative - 11th District. It also includes the announcement of the MLK art contest winners, and music from the MSOE jazz ensemble and orchestra.
