MSOE begins its study abroad trip to China on Friday, May 29. The trip is part of MSOE's Rader School of Business graduate management program and includes stops in Shanghai and Beijing. Nine graduate students are participating in the program titled "Doing Business in China." Dr. Carolyn "Kelly" Ottman designed and is leading the program.
The program allows students to gain first-hand experience through 11 days of travel in Shanghai and Beijing. While abroad, they network with Chinese business professionals, government officials and local leaders during corporate tours and meetings. The program features several key business partnerships that allow students to investigate how business is done in China. MSOE's business partners include: Brady Corporation, General Electric, Kohler Company, Manpower, Motorola, Michael Best and Friedrich, Microsoft, Oshkosh Corporation, Sun Hydraulics, and Williams Controls.
A goal of the experience is to enhance cultural and historic understanding with tours of the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, as well as shopping in local markets and using public transportation. While in China, MSOE graduate students will engage in a servant leadership project helping to teach English language to Chinese migrant workers.
