WMSE 91.7FM will host Radio Summer Camp (RSC) Wednesday, Aug. 19 through Monday, Aug. 24. RSC is the radio station's inaugural music festival, intended to bolster the Milwaukee music community by pairing some of Milwaukee's best artists like Decibully, Call Me Lightning, Rusty Ps, The Championship and Paul Cebar, with great national and international touring bands and musicians like Justin Townes Earle, Jason Isbell, Bill Kirchen, Joe Pug and Rural Alberta Advantage.
The official RSC Kick-Off show will take place Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Historic Turner Hall Ballroom, and is, in part, a tribute to a few Milwaukee musicians who helped pave the way for the current crop of Milwaukee bands. Reunited solely for this event are Sometime Sweet Susan, one of Milwaukee's premier ‘90s bands. They will be joined by current Milwaukee artists Juniper Tar and The Trusty Knife, as well as The Dim Suns, whose core members are from another influential local act from the ‘90s, Compound Red.
The festival takes place at venues throughout Milwaukee, and the featured event will be the WMSE Backyard BBQ, an all-day outdoor concert at Cathedral Square Park (across from MSOE's Walter Schroeder Library) on Saturday, Aug. 22 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The BBQ will feature an impressive lineup of local and national American music. From country to blues to folk, the BBQ will be all straw hats and lemonade and will, of course, feature tasty BBQ from local area restaurants.
Through Aug. 7, RSC festival passes are available for only $15. Normally $25, the pass grants purchasers access to every RSC show (six days and 40+ performers at various venues throughout the city).
Radio Summer Camp received financial support from both the Wisconsin and Milwaukee Arts Boards, as well as generous sponsor support from great local businesses, Rockhaus Guitars and Drums, Hot*Pop, Battomi, Beans and Barley and many others.
Details about the RSC line-up, tickets and sponsors can be found at www.wmse.org. Funding for WMSE Radio is provided by the WMSE listening community through membership contributions and by area businesses through program underwriting. 91.7FM WMSE is financially independent of the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
