Afshan is an associate professor and biomolecular engineering program director in the Physics and Chemistry Department. She holds a bachelor's degree from Lahore College for Women and a master's degree in chemistry from Quaid-i-Azam University, both in Pakistan. She earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from UW-Milwaukee.

Dr. Larry Fennigkoh '74, '86 has been inducted into the College of Fellows of The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Dr. Fennigkoh is a biomedical engineering professor in MSOE's Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering technology and master's degree in engineering management from MSOE, and his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from UW-Milwaukee.

Dr. John Gassert received the Theo C. Pilkington Outstanding Educator Award from the Biomedical Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. Dr. Gassert is a biomedical engineering professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering, and his Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, all from Marquette University.

David Gerow ‘81, adjunct associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, received the Johnson Controls Award, presented to outstanding part-time faculty. The award was inspired by Robert C. Moore, a long-time faculty member in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department. Gerow earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from MSOE and his master's degree in engineering mechanics from UW-Milwaukee.

Dr. Timothy Herman, Dr. Anne Marie Nickel and Eatai Roth invented "Molecular Models" based on Roth's work at MSOE during the Research Experience for Undergraduates program. MSOE was assigned a patent for their work. Dr. Herman is director of MSOE's Center for BioMolecular Modeling and Dr. Nickel is an associate professor in the Physics and Chemistry Department.

Dr. Jovan Jevtic, assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department, along with three other individuals, invented an "Inductively Coupled High-Density Plasma Source." Tokyo Electron Limited was assigned a patent for their work.

Dr. Jim Mallmann, physics professor in MSOE's Physics and Chemistry Department received the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Association of Physics Teachers for his commitment to the advancement of physics through long-term, organized activities designated to promote physics and physics education. This summer, Dr. Mallman, won first place in the Apparatus Competition at the national meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers. His Remote Breathing Status Monitor is used to produce a graphical video display that shows how the inhaled and exhaled air temperature changes as a person breathes. Mallman earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from UW-Milwaukee and his Ph.D. in materials science from Marquette University.

Dr. Douglas Stahl, a professor in MSOE's Architectural Engineering and Building Construction Department, was named Educator of the Year by Wisconsin Builder magazine. He earned his bachelor's degree in architecture and engineering from Purdue University, his master's degree and Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from UW-Madison.
