MSOE athlete receives Academic All-American status

Austin Meier     MSOE Raider Basketball forward Austin Meier was named to the ESPN the Magazine's Academic All-America® College Division First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Meier becomes the 11th Academic All-American® in MSOE's history.

     The Oshkosh, Wis., native was previously selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-District Second Team for the Midwest Region. Meier began playing basketball at MSOE during the 2007-08 season. He has been a starter the past three years and was named Northern Athletics Conference Rookie of the Year as a freshman.

     In his first season, Meier led the team in rebounds, steals and averaged 11.4 points per game. In the 2008-09 season, he started in 26 out of 26 games, led the team in rebounds, assists, free-throws, steals and shots blocked. This season, he averaged 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game, and shot 58% from the field. He has earned All Conference honors twice for MSOE in the Northern Athletics Conference.

     Meier excels off the court as well. He is a junior double-majoring in architectural engineering and construction management, and has a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

     Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. To receive this honor, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings, and be nominated by their sports information director.

      MSOE is an independent university with 2,600 students.
