Graduate students from Milwaukee School of Engineering will depart for China on Friday, May 28. The second annual trip is part of MSOE's Rader School of Business graduate management program. Eight graduate students are participating in the program titled "Doing Business in China." Dr. Carolyn "Kelly" Ottman designed and is leading the program. New this year, the trip includes a stop at the World Expo in Shanghai and a servant-leadership project with a school in rural China.
The program allows students to gain first-hand experience through 12 days of travel in Shanghai, Suzhou, Xian and Beijing. While abroad, they network with Chinese business professionals, government officials and local leaders during corporate tours and meetings. The program features several key business partnerships that allow students to investigate how business is done in China. MSOE's business partners include: Brady Corporation, General Electric and GE HealthCare, DemandForce, Clifton Addison, Kohler Company, Mercury Marine, Oshkosh Corporation and Williams Controls.
To help understand business operations in China, a goal of the experience is to enhance cultural and historic understanding with tours of the Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Terracotta Warriors, as well as shopping in local markets and using public transportation. While in China, the MSOE graduate students will engage in a servant-leadership project by volunteering their time at a school in rural China, sponsored by Brady Corporation.
