Twenty-four local restaurants will participate in WMSE's 9th Annual Food Slam fundraiser. They'll all be offering up exquisite food and beverage samples at the food tasting and silent auction fundraiser, to be held Friday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Grohmann Museum, 1000 N. Broadway.
The 24 restaurants dishing out specialty entrees for up to 500 listeners and supporters are: Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company, Atomic Chocolate Company, Ball ‘N Biscuit Catering, Beans & Barley, Blue's Egg, Eat Cake!, Hector's on Delaware, The Horny Goat Hideaway, Hotch-a-do, Jake's Deli, Mamasita's Tamales, Martita's Mixers, Maxie's Southern Comfort, McBob's Pub & Grill, Milwaukee Ale House, Novo@Moct, Molly Cool's Seafood Tavern, Motor, Nanakusa Japanese Restaurant, Red Rock Saloon, Sala da Pranzo, Simma's Bakery, Soups On! and Times Square Pizzeria.
"We stress, over and over again, the importance of the strong relationships we have with our community partners," said Jason Mohr, WMSE development director. "The Food Slam is a great example of these strong relationships. We offer a platform that helps create awareness for local restaurants while they provide a lot of color, and food, to one of our major fundraisers."
A silent auction boasting an abundance of unique packages also will benefit the non-profit, non-commercial music station that evening. "Take a stuffy, up-scale silent auction and food tasting, add a wrestling theme and the Frontier Radio spirit, and out comes a silent auction and food tasting that you actually WANT to attend," said Ryan Schleicher, WMSE promotions director. "It's a really fun event! A lot of events like this are staid and seemingly an obligatory charity event. Not ours. If there's one thing WMSE will never be, it is dull. We want ties loosened or no ties at all. We can still offer a lot of what similar fundraisers offer, but without the attendees looking at their watches to determine if they've stayed the required amount of time. We want people to be bummed that it's time to leave."
All food is included in the $30 admission price at the door, though reserving a spot in advance is highly recommended. Likely to sell out, tickets are now available online at http://www.wmse.org/. The Food Slam is open to all members of the community. The cash bar will feature beer from the Milwaukee Brewing Company and wine from Trapiche. Additional event sponsors are MSOE, Clark Graphics and AV Club Milwaukee.
In partnership with the Hunger Task Force, attendees who donate two or more non-perishable food items at the door will receive one complimentary beverage (limit one per person).
