MSOE Rader School of Business students are best in country

Garrick Jannene and Samantha Thorn finished in first place in national business competitions sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL). Jannene, an international business major, finished first in the International Business competition placing in front of students from New Jersey, Florida and Pennsylvania. Thorn, a management information systems major, earned her first place award in the Management Concepts competition finishing ahead of students from Indiana, Arizona and Pennsylvania.
The duo was joined among the nation’s best by a team of MSOE software engineering majors who finished in fifth place in Computer Game & Simulation Programming: Michael Altschwager, Nathan Askow and Tyler Hackbarth.
A total of nine MSOE students competed at the FBLA-PBL National Leadership Conference held in Orlando, June 23-27, 2011. Melinda Davies, Rader School of Business lecturer, accompanied the MSOE students to Orlando.
To qualify for the national competition and travel to Orlando, students Nathan Askow, Michael Altschwager, Sidney Bickle, Tyler Hackbarth, Garrick Janenne, Jacob Larson, Steve Luecht, Samatha Thorn and Zachary Zirzow each finished in first or second place at the FBLA-PBL state competition. The Rader School of Business and the student chapter have been affiliated with FBLA-PBL since 2006. Membership is open to students of all majors.
