MSOE wins award for student activities

Milwaukee School of Engineering received a number of awards at the National Association for Campus Activities' (NACA) 2011 Northern Plains Regional Programming Conference. Representing MSOE at the conference were the executive members of the Student Union Board: Mark Brouch, Nick Cote, Kash Engineer, Tom Keul, Tyler Loehrl and Ethan Sippel, and advisors Kayla Madaus and Nick Seidler.
Outstanding Advisor Award
For the second year in a row, Nick Seidler received the Outstanding Advisor Award. This is the first time someone has won the award more than once. Seidler was honored for his outstanding service to MSOE, significant involvement with the campus and/or community, creative and innovative efforts at MSOE, and involvement with NACA.
"Nick is the assistant director of student activities and advisor to a number of different student organizations on campus," said Tyler Loehrl, Student Union Board president. "In short, Nick is an outstanding advisor, mentor, colleague and friend to MSOE. I congratulate him on this deserved achievement."
Outstanding Delegation Award
This award is given to a delegation that participates in all aspects of the conference: effective and thorough use of the Marketplace, attendance at co-op buying meetings and educational sessions, participation as volunteers, school spirit and the best representation of its institution and individual delegates. MSOE last won this award in 2008.
Celebrating the Human Spirit of Programming Award
MSOE received this award for the "Discover the World Series," which was sponsored by the International Student Association and Student Union Board. The award is given to an outstanding program with a diversity or multicultural theme and contributes to the understanding of multicultural populations and diversity within the entire campus community. It is based on student involvement, creativity, and the success of the program. This is the first time MSOE won this award.
Website Design Award
For the second year in a row, the Student Union Board website was recognized. It was designed by Mark Brouch.
Publicity Campaign Award
MSOE won this award for the Student Union Board's "Dynamic Duo" advertising campaign. Entries in this category had to include at least three separate promotions for a single event or organization. The promotional pieces were designed by Mark Brouch and Tim Paladin.
Themed Publicity Award
Tim Paladin received Honorable Mention for the promotional pieces he designed for the Discover the World series. This award honors entries of three or more separate promotions for a series of themed events.
The NACA Northern Plains Conference covers campus events and activities, student orientation and programming, events marketing, and student development in all areas of co-curricular learning. The Northern Plains Region covers all the universities and colleges in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and the Canadian Provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and western Ontario.
MSOE is an independent university with 2,600 students. MSOE offers 18 bachelor's degrees and 10 master's degrees in the engineering, engineering technology, building and infrastructure engineering, health-related engineering, computer, business and nursing fields.
