WMSE 91.7FM’s 10th annual Food Slam fundraiser will take place Friday, Oct. 7, at MSOE’s Grohmann Museum, 1000 N. Broadway. Throughout the evening attendees may browse the museum’s Man at Work art collection while experiencing all that the Food Slam has to offer.
The Food Slam will feature 26 area restaurants, businesses, food trucks and cafés dishing out specialty entrees for up to 500 listeners and supporters. A silent auction boasting an abundance of unique packages will also benefit the non-profit, non-commercial music station that evening.
Leading up to the Food Slam, Comet and Honeypie Cafés are offering two burgers: the “Old Milwaukee” and the “New Milwaukee.” The restaurants will donate $2 to WMSE for each burger sold during the entire month of September. The “Old Milwaukee” meat burger is a tribute to Milwaukee’s rich Eastern European heritage, while the “New Milwaukee” veggie burger is a nod to a more modern, progressive, artistic Milwaukee.
The 2011 Food Slam is expected to sell out, so advanced ticket purchases are highly encouraged. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased online through Brown Paper Tickets. Attendees can taste food and beverages prepared by some of Milwaukee’s best restaurants. Vendors for the Food Slam come in many varieties including upscale dining (Sala da Pranzo, The Rumpus Room), food trucks (The Chubby Cheese Truck), catering companies (Kasana Concierge Gourmet, Ball’N Biscuit), cafés (Anodyne, Outpost), taverns (McBob’s), specialty shops (Bolzano Artisan Meats, Purple Door Ice Cream), and more.
The Food Slam is open to all members of the community, and a cash bar will be serving local craft beer from the Milwaukee Brewing Company as well as wine and soft drinks. WMSE will also be accepting food donations for The Hunger Task Force. Attendees who bring two or more non-perishable food items will receive one complimentary drink.
Details and features about participating Food Slam vendors and full descriptions of the “Old Milwaukee” and “New Milwaukee” burgers can be found on the official Food Slam blog, currently curated by WMSE food writer Erin Harris.
