Members of MSOE's Mechanical Contractors Association of America student chapter traveled to Maui, Hawaii, in March to compete in MCAA's Student Chapter Competition. The team took first place and won $5,000. Congratulations to team members (pictured below, left to right) Sean Seagren, Samantha Pekarscik, Craig Hanson, Tony Marzetta (MCAA student president), Julie Burg, Kayla Edler and Karli Ellwanger. Blake Wentz, assistant professor in the Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management Department, is the group's advisor.

Twenty-nine student teams submitted proposals for this year's competition. The four teams with the best proposals were invited to compete for the national title in Hawaii. MSOE faced Colorado State University, Pittsburg State University and the University of Washington.
At the competition, the students demonstrated their knowledge of mechanical systems, the details of a project bid proposal, and the demands on a contracting business. They had 20 minutes to make their best pitch while the judges evaluated each presentation on several attributes, including organization, schedule, costs and overall quality of the presentation. Their proposal was for a 15,000-square foot, two-story green building project in California that is to be the headquarters for an investment group.
