Exhibition on view only July 27-28 at MSOE
What's New is a selection of 23 recent additions to Man at Work: The Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection at MSOE that expands the collection's breadth into even more areas of work, including fishing, lace making and beekeeping, an iconic portrait of a paperboy, and The Seaweed Gatherers, a beautiful seascape by Frederick Arthur Bridgman.
Because the Man at Work presents a broad spectrum of human achievement, the 50 works added to the collection last year expand its chronology even earlier with a 1580s painting by a student of Italian painter Francesco Bassano, as well as the addition of trades and industries not previously represented in the collection. Some of the new activities include fishing, grape and hops harvesting, lace making, beekeeping, child labor, butchering and sausage making, brass casting, book binding, decorative painting and Extra, Extra, a 1904 depiction of a paper boy by British-born American realist painter John George Brown.
What's New! will be on display for two days only, during Gallery Night & Day July 27-28 at MSOE's Alumni Partnership Center, 1120 N. Broadway. The next Man at Work exhibition opens Oct. 27 in Milwaukee's newest attraction, the Grohmann Museum.
