The Early Response Cooling System (ERCS) was designed as part of a senior design project. A team of three electrical engineers and one computer engineer worked on the project. The ERCS allows medical personnel to begin immediate treatment for various injuries and conditions that require a patient’s core body temperature to be lowered, such as heat stroke or cardiac arrest.  The device is a spine board on which the patient will be transported in an ambulance.  The treatment will begin lowering a patient’s core body temperature for what is known as medically-induced therapeutic hypothermia.

Team members: Chad Bohl, Keith Dykstra, Curt Helbing, Luke Kazmierski

Faculty advisor: Dr. Owe Petersen
