The Lacunaby Barbara KingsolverMarch 14, 2012 This provocative, epic tale follows the life of Harrison Shepherd who, after being discharged from a military academy, travels to Mexico where he lives with artist Diego Rivera and their guest, Leon Trotsky. This is just the beginning of Harrison’s adventures and trials. He becomes a writer and is eventually investigated for subversive, “anti-American” activities. His dual identity as both Mexican and American is reflected in the vibrant descriptions of life in both countries. The novel ultimately exposes the beauty and ugliness of this historical time. |
