The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
November 11, 2009 - Session Full
and November 18, 2009

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is a story about Juliet Ashton, an English author who, in 1946, is looking for a new writing project. She finds it in a letter from one Dawsey Adams who’d come across her name inside the cover of a second-hand book. Juliet and Dawsey, a native of the island of Guernsey, become pen pals. Before long, Juliet is exchanging letters with some of Dawsey’ s friends as well. They’re all members of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and, as their stories unfold, Juliet finds herself filled with a desire to sail to Guernsey and meet them. What she discovers is a wonderful, somewhat eccentric group of people and a life she didn’ t imagine.
