Architectural engineers design the structural, mechanical and electrical systems that we depend on to make our buildings safe and healthy. Construction managers use their skills in estimating, scheduling and site management to safely and economically construct these buildings.

Activities:

Students in teams of 3 or 4 will be challenged to design a small commercial building including a model. The architectural design activities will be led by a registered architect. Throughout the week students will have sessions with a structural engineer, a mechanical engineer, an electrical engineer and a construction manager.

Topics include:

  • building structures
  • heating ventilating and air conditioning
  • plumbing
  • electrical design
  • construction management

Instruction is hands on with plenty of time for questions about career choices. The week will include a tour of our structural, mechanical and electrical labs as well as an architectural walking tour of downtown Milwaukee.

Learn more about Architectural Engineering

MSOE’s four-year bachelor of science degree program in architectural engineering prepares you for a career in the design and construction of buildings and building systems. Through a combination of lecture and laboratory courses, you will connect theory and the practical application of design principles, practice, methods and materials. Graduating from the architectural engineering program provides you with a core of mathematics, science, construction materials and business, plus a design specialty.

Learn more about Construction Management

MSOE’s B.S. in construction management program educates students to manage projects from conception to completion. MSOE stresses the technical process and resource management skills essential to safely construct high-quality commercial, institutional and industrial buildings on time, within budget. You’ll study modern construction materials and methods; accurate estimation, scheduling and controlling; and efficient, legal and ethical project administration and management.
