Generative AI Unpacked: Transitioning from Novice to AI Faculty Enthusiast

Dive into the world of generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT, Bard, Vertex, Copilot, Grammarly, DALLE, Midjourney, etc.) with this beginner-friendly workshop tailored specifically for MSOE faculty. Join presenters Dr. Nadya Shalamova (Professor) and Dr. Tammy Rice-Bailey (Associate Professor) in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Communication department and Sean Jones (Assistant Professor) in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department as we delve into the core concepts of generative AI, explore its practical applications in the real world, and offer hands-on experience to help you grasp the full potential of this transformative technology in education.

Bring your laptop and a sample of your teaching materials (e.g., assignment, syllabus, grading rubric) that you'd like to enhance using generative AI.  Come with questions and depart equipped to harness generative AI to elevate your teaching and work productivity.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, faculty will be able to:

  • Grasp the foundational concepts of generative AI.
  • Recognize both the advantages and challenges of generative AI.
  • Familiarize themselves with prevalent generative AI tools and their practical uses.
  • Employ the best practices of prompt engineering to update their teaching materials.
