Students at MSOE honored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 18, a federal holiday celebrating his birthday, by participating in a number of service opportunities right on campus. The Office of Servant-Leadership organized the second annual event, making it easy for busy students to make a difference in the community.

More than 100 students gathered in the Campus Center to write letters to breast cancer patients; make sandwiches that were distributed at the Cathedral Center and Salvation Army to the homeless; decorate and assemble gift bags filled with birthday party supplies that the YWCA will distribute to families who need help celebrating a child’s birthday; write letters to troops; and pack donated school supplies for students at Milwaukee Math and Science Academy.

Special thanks to the United Way of Greater Milwaukee, and MSOE’s Office of Servant-Leadership, Student Life, Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Circle K, Greek Council, Lambda Zeta Nu, Student Government Association and American Society of Mechanical Engineers for their help in planning and orchestrating the day’s events.
