MSOE celebrates Media Literacy Week with speakers and events
MSOE is hosting a variety of events for Media Literacy Week, running Oct. 26–30, 2026. The mission of Media Literacy Week is to highlight the power of media literacy education and its essential role in education across the country. The theme for the week is Think. Question. Connect. Be Media Smart!
MSOE students, faculty and staff are invited to learn more and strengthen their media literacy at upcoming events:
Media Literacy Table | Oct. 26–30 | Walter Schroeder Library
Visit the Media Literacy Table throughout the week and engage with a different theme each day: Monday’s theme is Access; Tuesday’s theme is Analyze; Wednesday’s theme is Evaluate; Thursday’s theme is Create; and Friday’s theme is Act.
“This is your brain. This is your brain on AI-driven digital media. Any questions?” | Oct. 29 | CC-103 | 12 p.m.
Dr. Andrew McAninch, Humanities, Social Science and Communication associate professor, will give a presentation exploring the ethics of online advertising, recommender systems and chatbots.
Spot the AI/Media Trick for a Treat | Oct. 30 | 11 a.m.–1 p.m. | Dining Commons
Test your media literacy skills and see if you can spot AI. Earn a treat if you can identify the media trick!
Through these events, MSOE students, faculty and staff will explore how to spot misinformation, think critically about what we see and share, learn about the ethics of AI and its interactions with digital content, and become more confident consumers of information.
Media Literacy Week at MSOE is hosted by the Council for Community and Belonging – Student Support and Advocacy Group. The U.S. Media Literacy Week is a nation-wide initiative hosted by the National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE).
