MSOE’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program ranked #1 in Wisconsin
Milwaukee School of Engineering’s (MSOE) Master of Science in Nursing–Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (MSN PMHNP) program has been ranked #1 in the state of Wisconsin by RegisteredNursing.org in its newly released 2026 Best Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Programs in Wisconsin list.
The annual ranking evaluates programs across the state using criteria such as accreditation status, clinical training quality, graduate outcomes, and overall program rigor. According to RegisteredNursing.org, MSOE earned the top spot thanks to its strong academic foundation, hybrid learning model, CCNE accreditation, and emphasis on preparing nurses for advanced practice roles in mental and behavioral health care.
“MSOE’s PMHNP program offers a hybrid format that blends online course work with two, on-campus immersive experiences that really allow students to bring things together. They then have more hands on experiences in the practice setting,” said Dr. Carol Sabel, professor and chair of the MSOE School of Nursing. “The curriculum is designed to equip future psychiatric nurse practitioners with advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy and medication management—all grounded in a holistic model of care. We are one of the few programs in the nation endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association.”
Students benefit from:
- Small, interactive class settings and blended synchronous learning
- Holistic nursing foundation, including therapy informed care approaches
- Simulation and technology enhanced training
- Robust clinical practicum experiences across Wisconsin
- Eligibility for ANCC PMHNP certification and AHNCC holistic nursing certification upon graduation.
MSOE also offers a Post Master’s PMHNP Certificate, which was recognized by RegisteredNursing.org as a high quality pathway for nurses seeking specialized psychiatric training through a hybrid online and in person format.
MSOE’s focus on preparing practice ready clinicians positions graduates to immediately contribute to addressing these needs in community clinics, integrated health systems, behavioral health hospitals, and telehealth environments.
