Are you interested in exploring your future as an engineer? Want to run your own business? Or perhaps you’d like to put your finger on the pulse of the nursing profession. MSOE’s week-long summer programs during July offer high school students the opportunity to discover careers in engineering, business and nursing. Registration is underway now, and space is filling quickly.

Students will spend one week on campus, living in the residence halls and participating in the university’s “Discover the Possibilities” and “Focus on the Possibilities” summer programs, learning about some of today’s most in-demand careers.

Discover the Possibilities camps cover corresponding areas of engineering and are ideal for students who aren’t quite sure what field interests them most. Students can choose from:

  • Engineering and Building the Future: architectural engineering/construction management; civil engineering; industrial engineering; mechanical engineering
  • Health-related Science and Engineering: bioinformatics; biomedical engineering; biomolecular engineering; computer engineering
  • Engineering and Computing Systems: business information technology; computer engineering; electrical engineering; software engineering

Focus on Engineering camps are perfect for students who want to concentrate on a specific engineering discipline. Students get hands-on experience working in MSOE’s labs on exciting projects with faculty. They can choose to focus on one of the following:

  • architectural engineering and construction management
  • biomedical engineering
  • biomolecular engineering
  • computer engineering
  • electrical engineering
  • mechanical engineering
  • software engineering

During Focus on Business camps, business-minded students will run their own business for a week and learn about the business functions that make companies successful, and how a company gets ideas, develops products, raises money, makes and sells its products, and accounts for the money earned and spent. Students will study market-oriented mission statements, leadership and teamwork in business, integrated marketing strategies, financial and economic aspects in business, and professional presentation techniques.

Focus on Nursing camps allow students to explore their desire to care for others. They’ll learn about the different levels of nursing (CNA to Ph.D.); organ donation, nursing assessment of adult and pediatric patients; the history of nursing; and the current U.S. health care system. The students will tour specialty areas inside local hospitals, which may include an intensive care unit or Flight for Life. They’ll also participate in hands-on activities in MSOE’s state-of-the-art Ruehlow Nursing Complex.
