Senior mechanical engineering major Tanner Lallensack is wrapping up his time at MSOE which has come with some great experiences both on campus and through internships.

As a member of the MSOE community, he has been involved in the MSOE chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and works as a CREATE Student Fellow within MSOE’s CREATE Institute. As a fellow, he helps students, faculty and staff that come to utilize the Nelson Prototype Lab (NPL) for their creative projects. He also embodies the MSOE Mindset and helps CREATE with their events held in the NPL and COVE.

Lallensack’s desire to help others has stemmed from his volunteering and work at Camp Tapawingo in Mishicot, Wisconsin which was one of his first internship experiences. He’s maintained his relationship with the camp and continues to support their initiatives.

“I am the vice president of the Friends of Wisconsin Camp Tapawingo Corporation which is a non-profit that owns and operates Camp Tapawingo. Throughout the year I enjoy helping program youth and family camps.”

In addition, he has interned in fields directly related to his major with Manitowoc Ice and Manitowoc Crane. Both experiences helped in his development as a mechanical engineer. At Manitowoc Ice, he completed reliability resting of the front panel of ice machines as well as quality analysis of supplier parts. At Manitowoc Crane, where he interned before starting his senior year, Lallensack worked to design a setup vehicle that would assist in raising a component of a new crane for the company.

“I created the model in CAD and performed hand calculations and analyzed it with FEA to ensure the vehicle would not fail. I also worked with the design of the top of the crane that would connect to the vehicle. I used CAD and FEA again to model and analyze the design.”

Lallensack has secured a job with Manitowoc Crane after he graduates from MSOE this May and will continue to work on projects similar to his intern experience there as an engineer within the structures group.

Outside of his schoolwork and time spent with Camp Tapawingo, he enjoys time spent outdoors fishing and hunting. He also describes himself as a 3D printing hobbyist.
