What is Form 8300?

To adhere to federal regulations, MSOE is obligated to file IRS Form 8300 whenever a payment of $10,000 or more is received in cash in a single transaction or in two or more related transactions from an individual.

This helps prevent money laundering and promote transparency in financial transactions.

When is the form filed?

Anytime MSOE receives $10,000 in cash in one transaction or in two or more related transactions, we are required to file Form 8300 within 15 business days of each transaction,

Transactions occurring up to a rolling 12-month period are considered related (and reportable) if the recipient knows, or has the reason to know, that each transaction is one of a series of connected transactions.

What does this mean for you?

If you plan to make a cash payment, payer must be prepared to present the following:

  • Government Issued ID - Driver's License, Passport, or Permanent Resident Card
  • Payer will be asked to complete a brief cash reporting form.
