Information for Faculty and Staff
Will classes be cancelled?
Classes beginning at 1 p.m. and later are cancelled on Friday, April 24, 2026 to allow for all employees and students to attend this ceremonious occasion.
Will offices and departments be closed?
All employees are invited and strongly encouraged to attend the inauguration with their supervisor’s permission and may do so without using PTO. And while there will not be an official campus-wide closing of offices or departments, if all employees in a department plan to attend the event, they should post notices on their doors and update their voicemail messages to inform callers of their temporary absence. Those who choose not to attend the inauguration are expected to continue working as scheduled or use PTO, if the inauguration falls during their regularly scheduled hours. Offices in which all employees wish to attend may post notices on their doors and use voice mail to record incoming calls.
May I participate in the academic procession?
Absolutely! We ask faculty and staff to email president@msoe.edu to indicate their desire to process. Please note: You will need to provide your own academic regalia. Personal items may be left in the locked space assigned for those taking part in the procession. Don’t forget to register in advance to let us know you are coming. You may register online by using the RSVP link that was included in your invitation.
Do I need to provide my own regalia?
Yes, see above.
How do I RSVP that I plan to enrobe and process?
Please register online by using the RSVP link included in your invitation, then email president@msoe.edu to indicate that you would like to process. You must RSVP ahead of time so we can set aside the right number of seats at the front of the arena.
May I march in the procession without wearing regalia?
No. In keeping with tradition and to make the investiture ceremony as festive and special as possible, only those in academic attire may process. However, we still hope you will attend the ceremony.
May I bring a guest?
Guests are welcome to attend the inauguration but may not join the procession. Please be sure to include them when you RSVP.
May retired faculty and staff participate in the academic procession?
Yes. Retired MSOE faculty and staff are welcome to join the academic procession but must provide their own academic regalia. Please email president@msoe.edu to indicate that you would like to process. You must RSVP ahead of time so we can set aside the right number of seats at the front of the arena. Those who don’t have regalia are invited to attend the ceremony and sit in the general seating area.
What is the attire for those not processing?
Business casual.
How long will the ceremony last?
Approximately 90 minutes.
What if I have more questions or special needs?
