MSOE Quarter to Semester Conversion
MSOE will transition from an 11-week, quarter-based academic calendar (10 weeks instruction + 1 finals week) to a 16-week (15 weeks instruction + 1 finals week) semester model beginning with the 2023-24 academic year. Significant time and resources have been committed to this transition since it was announced in December 2019. As we lead into Fall 2023, this work continues, and regular announcements will be shared to ensure a smooth transition for everyone.

Students:
As we approach our last spring term under the quarter system, I wanted to pass along some information about our transition to semesters especially as it relates to your academic records. This information is only relevant to those that will be making the transition to semesters and not those who will be graduating from MSOE at the end of the spring or summer terms.
- All students should have an Individualized Transition Plan (ITP) on record at this time. If not, then it is imperative that you meet with your academic advisor as soon as possible. The ITP replaces the curriculum that was provided to you at the start of your academic program here at MSOE.
- In mid-March, the Registrar’s Office will convert your quarter-based credits to semester-based credits. The courses on your transcript will not change, only the credits will be adjusted. All credit-based graduation requirements will be checked against semester-based requirements starting in Fall 2023.
- After the credit conversion takes place, the Registrar’s Office will begin the process of recording any course substitutions and/or waivers that are documented in your ITP.
- The registration process for the summer quarter and the fall semester will take place as usual during the spring registration period and will continue throughout the summer.
If you have any questions regarding the credit conversion process, please first connect with your academic advisor. Otherwise, please send your questions to studentsuccess@msoe.edu.
