Job Description
Multicultural Ambassadors (MAs) help students feel more connected to campus and the MSOE community. MAs support and lead initiatives within the Office of Multicultural Affairs, as well as receive additional training and experience to strengthen their interpersonal skills, boost their leadership, develop their managerial skills, and increase their knowledge of MSOE resources and offices. As an MA, your work will contribute to creating a more inclusive campus where students feel safe and supported to be their authentic selves.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in planning campus traditions such as Kente, Éxito, & International Graduation, Lunar New Year, and the Holiday Lighting Ceremony
- Plan, lead, or support on and off campus events and regular programming for students
- Aid the Office of Multicultural Affairs in administrating the Student Diversity Council ·
- Collaborate with student orgs, departments, and faculty/staff to create programs and events ·
- Support student orgs in planning events, creating marketing materials, reviewing policies and procedures, and assist with leading training sessions for org leaders if needed ·
- Assist in creating, promoting, and distributing marketing materials ·
- Attend enrollment events including Open Houses and Admitted Student Days ·
- Maintain the Multicultural Lounge
- Complete other administrative duties as assigned

- Demonstrate a positive attitude and school pride ·

- The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds
- Experience and/or working knowledge of various cultures domestically or internationally
- Excellent communication skills ·
- Interest in supporting efforts to promote campus inclusion ·
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively ·
- Strong attention to detail ·
- Interest in being creative ·
- Be available to work some nights and weekends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of providing services and mentorship for students from diverse social backgrounds, experience working with bilingual/multilingual students, international students, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, and students with disabilities
- International travel or experience living abroad
- Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and activities in a college setting
- Ability to speak another language. Proficiency in a second language, preferably one commonly spoken by international students (Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Arabic, etc.)
OTHER
- This position may require some lifting and physical activity. Work shifts will require you to be on campus. Multicultural Ambassadors will interact (face-to-face and virtually) with guests, students, and other members of the community.
