Job Description

Library Circulation Assistant student workers serve as the first point of contact for library customers at the library Circulation Desk. Circulation Assistant student workers are responsible for covering the library Circulation Desk to provide customer service, including but not limited to, answering phones, checking library books and reserve materials out/in, shelving and shifting library books, and helping library customers with directional and procedural inquiries (not reference questions) and other questions, as well as directing customers to librarians for reference and research help. Circulation Assistant student workers also gather and record statistics on library usage. The library is a card-access facility, and as such, Circulation Assistant student workers are expected to monitor walk-in pedestrian traffic, to refer requests for visitor access to the librarians, and to report to the librarians' issues and problems associated with card access. Student workers in this position additionally help library customers to troubleshoot minor computer, printer and photocopier problems, and are also responsible for stocking printers and copiers with paper, and other duties as assigned.
