Lab Tech/Social Media Specialist

Job Description
The Student Lab Technician/Social Media Specialist will be responsible for planning, creating content, and managing posts for social media accounts using Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube, and other relevant social media platforms. Students should also be familiar with Canva and video and photography. The student will be responsible for managing all devices in the Carter Usability Lab including the checkout of devices to students, faculty, and staff for educational purposes only, and will ensure that all devices are updated and ready for use.
Students majoring or minoring in UX will be given preference.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain all lab equipment (e.g., iPads, iMacs, Apple watches, iPhones, Oculus Quest)
- Ensure that the lab equipment is up to date
- Follow guidelines for allowing students, faculty, and staff to borrow devices in the lab for educational purposes
- Research industry trends to bring in new technology
- Promote lab usage among UX students and faculty
- Plan and run lab open house events several times throughout the year
- Install software on lab equipment
- Assist students in using lab equipment
- Assist the UX program director in defining and executing social media content strategy
- Create and post relevant and engaging content on social media channels to promote the HSC department, UX program, and HSC academic minors
- Track social media analytics to measure and improve audience engagement
- Provide professional and engaging responses to questions and comments posted on UX program social media
- Contribute to brand-building and audience-engagement efforts of the UX program
- Follow MSOE social media policies and style guide
- Work with the Digital Marketing Department for suggestions and content ideas for social media posts
- Create presentations, posters, and flyers for the HSC department and UX program events
Requirements:
- Strong interests in Apple technology and User Experience
- Familiarity with UX/usability research and methods
- Familiarity with media software, especially Adobe CC applications
- Ability to communicate policies and procedures to students and visitors
- Ability to work under pressure and execute tasks before deadline
- Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Desire to learn new technology and software
- Proficiency with current office and productivity tools (e.g., Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, Box, etc.)
- Strong written, visual design, and interpersonal communication skills
- Familiarity with Adobe CC applications and digital workspaces for visual collaboration (e.g., Mural or Miro)
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
- Desire to learn new technology and software, especially in the areas of AR, VR, and XR (extended reality)
