Job Description

The STEM Center program assistant is a great opportunity for students who are passionate about STEM outreach, enjoy working with K-12 youth, and want to make a positive impact in the community. The STEM Center Program Assistant plays a key role the following areas:

  1. Leading and supporting the successful delivery of STEM Center programs. This involves leading and/or supporting premade lessons in engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, or similar STEM topics while engaging students with an energetic and positive presence that makes learning enjoyable. 
  2. Creating a welcoming and organized environment for all visitors to the Center. This front-facing position involves greeting and checking in visitors on evenings and weekends.
  3. Preparing materials and equipment for programs, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and/or support instruction of premade STEM Center program content
  • Assist with the setup and takedown of materials and equipment for STEM programs and events
  • Staff the front desk of the STEM Center during scheduled shifts when not actively supporting a program
  • Greet and welcome K-12 students, educators, and other guests using the Center
  • Help organize and prep hands-on kits, supplies, and other materials in advance of programs
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shared program and prep spaces
  • Represent the STEM Center in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner at all times


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Reliable and able to commit to a consistent schedule each term (flexible around class schedule)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Comfortable instructing K-12 students as well as greeting and assisting visitors
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and dependable
  • Previous experience in customer service, STEM outreach, or education is helpful, but not required

Hours

  • Evenings and weekends are the primary hours for this position. Shifts we anticipate needing to fill are below, and student workers are not expected to be able to cover all shifts.

    Additional hours during the day and weekends will be available. Additional weeknight and weekend hours will be available as programs are scheduled throughout the year.

·         Mondays: 4:30 – 8:30 p.m. (weekly)

·         Tuesdays: 4:00 – 8:30 p.m. (weekly)

·         Wednesdays: 3:30 – 8:30 p.m. (weekly)

·         Thursdays: 4:30– 8:30 p.m. (weekly)

·         Saturdays: 9:00 – Noon; some Saturdays, an 8:00 a.m. start time might be needed, but this is not often
