When Thanvi left her hometown of Vijayawada, India, for Milwaukee, she was taking the first step toward a dream she’d been building for years. Growing up, she helped care for her blind father, who leads a nonprofit for the visually impaired. Watching him make a difference through innovation and compassion inspired Thanvi to explore how technology could change lives.
That spark led her to computer science, and eventually, to the Milwaukee School of Engineering. After researching universities around the world, Thanvi chose MSOE for its rigorous curriculum and strong integration of artificial intelligence.
Now a first-year computer science student, Thanvi has found inspiration and community across campus. Through the MSOE AI Club, she’s learned from industry leaders and even had a chance to talk with the CEO of Xorbix, a global technology solutions company. “That conversation really opened my mind and made me want to think more like an innovator,” Thanvi says.
Outside the classroom, Thanvi helps organize campus events through the Residence Hall Association and connects with other international students through the International Student Association. Celebrating Diwali with her peers—dancing, decorating diyas and wearing traditional clothes—helped her feel at home again. She also finds joy in the Asian American Student Union, where singing at K-pop Karaoke and the Desi Dance-Off let her relax and enjoy the moment.
