We’re excited you’ve chosen MSOE! The next step in joining the MSOE community is to choose your orientation, or ROAR, option. Our programs are designed to familiarize yourself with the people that will support you and give you the confidence to begin your Raider journey on the right foot:

Step 1: Choose the ROAR option that best meets your needs

OPTION 1: In-person ROAR

This orientation option, designed for students living in the Milwaukee area over the summer, and entering college for the first time OR transferring from a university after one year or less. It will include sessions on:

  • Building community amongst other first-year students and your Orientation Leader, a current MSOE student.
  • Recognizing the people, spaces, and campus resources that support your personal growth and academic journey.
  • Understanding academic expectations at your new university to ease the transition to MSOE.

For the guests that will join you for the in-person ROAR, they will participate in their own mini-MSOE orientation, gathering additional information that will help on your academic journey.

Their sessions include:

  • Learning about the inner workings of tuition billing, payment/financial account information, and financial aid opportunities
  •  Understanding how to support your independence and growth while navigating academics, careers, and involvement

  • Students and guests will attend separate sessions throughout the day.

Event Details 

  • Location: Kern Center, 1245 N Broadway, Milwaukee, WI 53202
  • Time: 9:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Parking: Parking will be available at 501 E. State St., Milwaukee, WI 53202 (State Street A Parking Lot). Check the campus map for exact locations. Please note, we cannot reimburse parking in other lots.

OPTION 2: Virtual ROAR

This orientation option, designed for students living abroad or out of state over the summer or students living in the Milwaukee area over the summer who are continuing their academic journey after attending college for 1.5+ years or more. It will include mini-sessions on:

  • Becoming oriented to MSOE’s technology that supports learning, communicating, and managing student responsibilities.
  • Navigating student account information, payment & budget plans, financial aid processes, and employment that aid in financing your education.
  • Understanding the MSOE Mindset while identifying an academic routine to support long-term success.

Registration

  • Students will receive a Microsoft Teams link to join their virtual ROAR sessions.

Event Details

  • Technology Requirements: Device with reliable high-speed internet, a webcam, microphone. 
  • Dates: Three, 1.5 hour sessions during the week of August 1014 at beginning around 5 p.m. (17:00) CDT.
  • Additional Information: Sessions will be interactive; login from a location that limits distractions and allows for both video and audio participation.

Step 2: Complete Your Admitted Student Next Steps

  • Log in to your myMSOE account and email
  • Upload your Raider ID Card Photo* (Submission needs to be completed and photo must be approved)
  • Submit your final transcripts and other official documents
  • Complete ALEKS – Math Assessment for course placement
  • Apply for housing through your Admitted Student Portal

Step 3: Attend International Student Predeparture Webinar

This orientation is designed for incoming graduate and undergraduate students living abroad who will be traveling to the U.S. for the first time and will include information on: 

  • Preparing you for your journey to the United States, including what to expect during travel and upon arrival.
  • Understanding the health insurance enrollment process and essential information for living in Milwaukee.
  • Reviewing important dates and events to ensure a smooth transition.

Event Details

  • Format: Live, mandatory webinar.
  • Date and Time: Tuesday, July 28 at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
  • Additional Information: Access details will be shared with you closer to the session date. 

Step 4: Arrive and Participate in International Student Orientation Events

International Student Orientation events during MSOE’s Welcome Week help international students quickly adjust to campus life while building a strong sense of community. Events during this week will include sessions and activities focused on:

  • Understanding important requirements such as maintaining F1 visa status, health insurance, and essential first steps like banking and cell phone setup.
  • Becoming familiar with MSOE’s campus, technology, and academic expectations to support your success.
  • Exploring Milwaukee while building connections through social events, tours, and activities with fellow students and the International Student Association (ISA).

Event Details

  • Format: combination of in-person informational sessions, social activities, and guided tours.
  • Dates: Events will begin with international student move-in on Tuesday, August 25 and end on Sunday, August 30.
  • Additional Information: Some sessions are mandatory; a complete schedule will be shared with you closer to the start of the program.
